Ok i know most of you want to hide files better.
As most of you know, hidden files arent really that secure and if you're like me it really doesnt do you any good since you like to see your hidden files and file extentions
Theres always encryption software, but password protection...I mean come on who is going to remember all those passwords... really.
This is a new method that i found just the other day. And it really amazes me that i didn't know about it.
It's so simple and i finally got to use those stupid blank icons in the system file... i thought microsoft just made a mistake or something :P
Anyway its really easy. All you have to do is...
Now just make sure the ones you're hiding these files from don't know it either :P ... Enjoy
Note: You should use the number keys instead of the numbers under the "F1, F2, etc..." keys. It won't work otherwise.

Online video sharing comparison matrix
The Good People Over at Life goggles have been trying to release a new ebook called “The Life Goggles guide to online video sharing”. It deals with all the new sites that host videos online like you tube, Daily Motion, etc...
Its a pretty cool way of finding the best online video host for you.
You'd be surprised at how quality, speed and efficiency differs from host to host. You'll soon learn that just because its the most commonly used doesn't mean its the best...
hosting the matrix here would probably just mess up the template for the blog. So I'll just post a link instead.
Blogger is sensitive that way... and blogger + IE is even more sensitive. I apologise for all you guys who had to suffer from my stupidity over the last few days. I honestly didn't think that an open < font > tag could do that much damage. It certainly didn't show on my Firefox.
Anyway the problem is fixed now and if you don't know what the hell i'm talking about then never mind :D

Re-read a book in less than 15 minutes
Ever Get Stuck with the curse of having 3 exams back to back or even worse 2 or more exams on the same day and every book was as thick as that big brain of yours?
Well I have and very recently in fact, but this tool helped me get through it. Stefanos Karagos over at anabubula.com wrote this wonderful article about preparing to re-read your books in less than 15 minutes.
All you have to do is make a simple mindmap of the book using these rules:
1. Write the book's title in the center of mindmap
2. Create a branch with book's general info [Writer, Publishing House etc]
3. For each book's chapter create a different branch using its title
4. For each chapter's branch write sub-chapters titles
5. If there are any important info you have to remember, just put it on the appropriate branch.
I recommend the software freemind to do this. Its Easy, its Free and it works!
Using Freemind is very simple too. All you have to do is...
After the program loads:
1. Rename the cenrtal node using the instructions given in step 1 above.
2. To create a branch simply press the "Insert" button on your keyboard
3. To Create a sibling branch, that is a branch with the same source press the return key "enter".
This a sample i made for my technical communication class using Lennon and Klepp's book "Technical Communication" (Canadian Third Edition). Download the PDF found here
Just Remember to prepare those mindmaps before hand. As it takes quite a bit of time to write that information down. On the other hand it could be good practice for you...
Anyway thats it for now ... enjoy

Comics and more comics
If you took a look at my "links" section ... previously (my everyday stops) you would have noticed that I have a thing for web-comics.
This actually started very recently when I was searching the net for new mmorpgs that are in beta and I found a link to the Noob...
Yes I do in fact know about world of warcraft But choose not to play it *gasp!!!*. The thing is that i get addicted too easily and with my course loads that could be fatal.
Anyway back to to the subject ar hand. I quickly finished reading the 226 pages of the noob and was eagerly waiting for more. From there I moved on to Goblins and things just took their natural course from there. These comics can be very entertaining *Surprisingly* and you just enjoy stepping out of your daily routine to look at them.
So for all you bored people out there in the blogospere drop by and look through my links or just head on over to The Webcomic List where you can also check if your favourite comics were updated or not.
I'm still trying to get their rss feed to work in my reader but it looks useless. If you know how please don't hesitate to share that information

Exam time
Well its that time of the year again. A time hated by all. When our worst emotions come to the surface and we bear our true faces to the world.
Surprisengly its not as stressful as i thought it would be. Probably because i'm way past that point already. Apparently the heavier the semester the less stressed you feel when it ends.
So i probably won't be around for a while and this thing won't really update. Hopefully i'll be back by the 21st with some good news and some things to share.
So take it easy all and i'll blog to you later...

Con U engineering student ... File Transfer
Lesson 2 is how to transfer filesFile Transfer
- Double click 'SSH Secure File Transfer Client' icon on your desktop.
- Click Quick connect
It will ask for your host name and user name. In host name field, type in the server name (login.encs.concordia.ca in this example) to which you would like to connect. The username is your ENCS username.
- Click Connect
When you connect for the first time, it will ask whether or not you will save Host identification key.
- Click Yes
It will also ask for your Password. Use the password for your ENCS account. Now you get two columns in the window. The desktop of your local machine is on the left column, while your Unix home directory is shown on the right column.
If you need to transfer files between your local PC and school, choose the source and destination directory from the drop box on the toolbar menu, then just drag and drop the files.
To see the main directory, just replace '/nfs/home/m/murtaza', with '/' in the drop box an the right side. Similarly, to choose your Windows home directory (drive G:\), replace '/nfs/home/m/murtaza' with '/winhome/m/murtaza' in the drop box on the right side.

Con U engineering students ... Connecting to your account
It really amazes me how many people don't know about this.
If you're an engineering student in Concordia university Montreal, you can connect to your account remotely from your own computer.
To do that you need only one single piece of software.
SSH Secure which can be found here
Remote Login
After downloading and installing SSH Secure Client. - Open your 'SSH Secure Shell Client
- Click Quick Connect
login.encs.concordia.ca in this example) to which you would like to connect. The username is your ENCS username. - Click Connect
If it is the first time you connect to this server, it will ask you whether to save Host identification key or not. - Click Yes
It will then ask your Password. Use the password for your ENCS account. Now, you are logged in your Unix home directory.
The Commands used here are very close to DOS commands. Use "dir" to list your directories and "cd /" to go to the main folder unfortunately "cd.." does not seem like a valid command.
